WASHINGTON: Talks with Afghan Taliban is not the victory but a failure of United States, an article published in a US newspaper.
According to an article posted on Wall Street Journal’s website, negotiations with Taliban after more than 10 years of fighting mean giving legitimacy and space to militant extremism.
It said that the objective of Nato’s post-9/11 intervention in Afghanistan was to starve militant extremism by defeating the nexus of al Qaeda and Taliban.
The US military surge in 2010 weakened the Taliban but latter managed to protract the fighting due to the deadlock between Pakistan and Nato after Salala checkpost attacks.
