Hashim Amla hit an unbeaten century as South Africa began their tour of Australia with a seven-wicket loss to Western Australia at the Waca.
Amla scored 105 off 118 balls while Jacques Kallis was 52 not out as the tourists scored 185-2 in 50 overs.
In what was essentially practice in the middle, the hosts passed the target in the 45th over before totalling 215-4.
Morne Morkel had a scare when he hurt his ankle during his delivery stride but he is not considered a Test doubt.
Coach Mickey Arthur said of Thursday's one-day game: "I thought we got as much out of the game as we could expect.
"Two players (Amla and Kallis) had lengthy innings which meant that others had to miss out in a 50-overs game. However, we will counter this by moving Ashwell Prince and AB de Villiers up to numbers three and four when we get to bat in the next match.
"All of the bowlers had a couple of spells and the exercise was much better than spending an extra day in the nets."
Lonwabo Tsotsobe, making his first senior appearance for South Africa, was the pick of the attack with one for 12 in 10 overs.
Captain Graeme Smith and paceman Dale Steyn will be back in the South Africa side to face a Western Australian XI for a two-day warm-up match starting on Friday. South Africa begin their three-Test series in Perth on 17 December.
