LONDON, Jan 27 (Reuters) - England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has had "encouraging results" from the scan on his side strain and is likely to be fit for the first test against West Indies next week, the ECB said on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old travelled from St Kitts to Jamaica on Monday for an MRI scan which revealed no major damage, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on its website (England and Wales Cricket Board - ECB).
Flintoff, whose international comeback last year was delayed by a similar injury, will be monitored ahead of Thursday's first-class fixture against West Indies A at Warner Park, Basseterre.
The first test of the four-match series begins at Sabina Park, Jamaica, next Wednesday.
Batsman Owais Shah was having further medical checks on Thursday after scratching his cornea.
Shah, who hit an unbeaten 125 on the opening day of the tour, sported an eye-patch after his initial examination.
