HEC for promoting national journals
ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) in its spell to promote research & development activities in Pakistan is determined to encourage locally published research journals in various disciplines to fulfill HEC laid down criteria to be considered at par with other international journals in their respective disciplines.
The HEC has placed these research Journals in four main fields of Science, Social Science, Multidisciplinary and Oriental Languages.
Highly qualified experts of the above said disciplines were invited at HEC in recent past to evaluate the Research journals being published by the universities and institutions of higher learning of Pakistan.
All the journals were evaluated by the experts and five of the engineering research journals were recommended by them, while from multi-disciplinary journals only two of them were endorsed by identifying some deficiencies in the context of editorial board, peer review process and the regularity of the journals.
The suggestions made by the experts are being communicated to the concerned journals by the HEC in order to further improve the quality of these research journals.
Similarly, in the field of Agricultural Sciences, HEC has constituted a committee comprised of eminent scientists and academicians of national & international repute, for the purpose.
These steps are taken up by the HEC for promotion of culture of quality research by the university faculty. This will help in producing scholarly publications of international repute. Therefore, HEC is continuously working to upgrade the standard of local journals to bring them to internationally acceptable norms
