Saif Ali Khan: The king of controversies

1: The Nawab of Pataudi and actor Saif Ali Khan lives up to his image. He has a lavish lifestyle, is married to one of the most beautiful actresses of today, has an unbeatable style and a successful career. However, his life is also full of controversies. With news doing the round that he might be stripped of the Padma Shri award due to a Mumbai court framing charges against him, we present top controversies related to the actor.

2: Saif’s scuffle at a restaurant:

One of the most talked about controversies of actor Saif Ali Khan is when he allegedly thrashed a South African businessman of Indian origin, Iqbal Meer Sharma, in the Japanese restaurant Wasabi at the Taj, in Mumbai. The actor was arrested for beating Iqbal and his 69-year-old father-in-law. Saif with Shakeel Ladak and producer Bilal Amrohi were booked for assault and voluntarily causing grievous injuries and were released on bail later. Quoting Iqbal, a TOI report said that Saif was with Kareena Kapoor and some friends at the same restaurant and were making a lot of noise. He said he asked the management to ask them to tone down the noise. However, they did not comply. Then on his way out, Saif allegedly confronted and abused him. He said, “I should go to a library if I wanted peace and quiet. We exchanged some words and he called me an idiot. He then punched me, while two other men pushed my father-in-law.” After getting treated in a hospital, Iqbal fired a complaint against the actor and Saif was charged under section 325 of the IPC. The actor may face seven years imprisonment if arrested and convicted for physical assault.

3: Saif-Kareena wedding:
Right from the age difference of 10 years to being termed as un-Islamic, Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor’s wedding has been dodged in controversies. First there were people who questioned the age difference between the two and wondered if Kareena will convert to Islam like Saif’s ex-wife Amrita Singh. In fact, a PTI report said that Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband had termed their wedding as "anti-Islam", saying the bride did not convert to Islam before the marriage. In fact, there were also rumours that alleged that many celebs were not too happy with their wedding and felt that they both were not right for each other. In fact, controversy queen Rakhi Sawant was quoted as saying that Kareena deserved a better husband than Saif Ali Khan.

4: Blackbuck poaching case:

Last year fresh charges were levied against Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam by a Rajasthan court regarding the 15-year-old blackbuck poaching case. The actors are accused of poaching two blackbucks on October 2, 1998 in Kankani village near Jodhpur (Rajasthan) during the shooting of the film Hum Saath Saath Hain. Since blackbuck is a protected animal and hunting or poaching of the same is a punishable offence under law. Saif was criticised and slammed with other actors for hunting the animal.

5: Lucknow Airport brawl:
Belonging to a royal family and being addressed as nawab of Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan is used to getting royal treatment. Hence, he was shocked when he was asked to leave the VIP lounge in Lucknow airport. The actor, who was on his way to Delhi from Lucknow, got the shock of his life when he was informed by an attendant to leave the premises of the VIP lounge. A PTI report says that an attendant informed him that only those who figured in a list authorised by the government could utilise the VIP lounge, and hence he should leave the place. There were allegations that Saif had lost his temper and had a bitter fight with airport security guards.

6: Smoking trouble:

The poster of Saif Ali Khan’s movie Go Goa Gone showed him smoking a cigar. The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) complained about the poster and an anti-tobacco organisation demanded that the actor should be punished for violating the country's anti-smoking laws in promoting Go Goa Gone. In fact, Saif was criticised for promoting smoking openly. An IANS report says that Shekhar Salkar, General Secretary of NOTE-India, registered a complaint with the North Goa district collector and deputy inspector general of police, seeking punishment for Saif under provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA), 2003.
