This battalion left Kohat on April 5th, 1918 for the Kashmir operation. The following officers were present;

Lieutenant-Colonel Habib Ullah Khan Major Rakhman Gul Major Ghulam Zakria Khan Captain Ghulam Mustafa Khan Janjua Captain Shadman Khan Captain Liaquat Ali Khan 2/Lieutenant Yousaf Khan Yousafzai

On April 16th. 1948 at 0005 hours, 2 FF Rif arrived at Tetrinot having marched from Rawalpindi. B and D Companies were sent immediately to occupy Tetrinot Ridge.

Shortly after midnight on April 16/17, when these companies had just arrived on the ridge, they were attacked by the Indian 1st Kumaon Battalion. The battalion attack was beaten back by these two companies, thanks to their determination and tenacity. After the enemy withdrew in the morning B and D Companies continued improving their trenches when they were again subjected to another determined assault by fresh troops.

This battle went on for some two hours before the battered enemy withdraw, carrying some 46 casualties away and leaving five dead bodies in the defensive position of these gallant defenders. We lost nine killed and 19 wounded. The battalion remained in the Tetrinot area until early May.

In June, 1948 the battalion was ordered to occupy defensive positions on Kafir Pahar, Chakoti, point 9108 village Til Patra) , Ladigali, Pir Kanthi, and Siren.

Unfortunately point 9108, a dominating feature, was captured by the Indians and D Company was ordered to counter-attack this height. In this it was entirely successful and drove the enemy out of their defenses by skilful use of fire and movement. The company lost five killed and four wounded in the action. D Company through this action and other privations was very much under-strength when it took up a position at Pir Kanthi on June 22nd, 1948.

As happens very often in war, this was the very position which the Indians decided to attack next. They attacked at 2000 hours on June 27th with a preponderance of strength, certainly over a battalion, but the brave D Company fought it out until it was ordered to withdraw at 0400 hours on June 28th. The company withdrew in good order and reassembled near Battalion Headquarters. Later, after some more border defense duty, 2 FF Rifs moved back to Kohat in October, 1948.
