HONG KONG: Asian shares were generally higher Friday, tracking gains on Wall Street, but analysts said rises were tempered by concerns over higher oil prices.

In Tokyo the Nikkei 225 was up 0.14 percent or 13.79 points at 9,609.36, and the Shanghai Composite Index, which includes both A and B shares, was up 0.32 percent or 7.60 points at 2,417.15.

But Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was flat, edging down 0.06 percent or 12.66 points to 21,368.33.

In Tokyo, Daiwa Securities senior market analyst Yumi Nishimura told Dow Jones Newswires the Nikkei's "upside may be limited" with the index looking overheated after a recent rally.

Japan's financial watchdog froze the operations of AIJ Investment Advisors after investigators said it had lost most of the $2.3 billion in pension funds it manages amid a report it may have hidden the losses for years. (AFP)
