Do’s:
- Get your manicure, pedicure and waxing done two days prior to your mehendi.
- Book your bridal mehendi time prior to that of your guest, so that the henna artist can concentrate on you only, without any disturbance.
- Wash your hands and feet with soap to make sure you don’t have any cream or moisturizer left over, if you had.
- Take a nap and eat properly prior to the mehendi.
- Wear some warm clothes, (in winter specially), because you may feel cold after mehendi application.
- Make sure you have everything that a henna artist needs in regards with the henna application, like a proper place, the light, rough old piece of towels or cleanex box, or any other material that might needed while doing henna.
- Most important thing to do is to tie the maaiyyan thread or any sort of bracelet above the area from where you are planning to get your henna design.
- Make yourself clear to the artist what and how much design you want, and discuss the price too that you are looking at.
- Remember good posture, good light and peaceful atmosphere will always give a good result.
- Do ask henna artist about the after care of henna, if you think it’s hard or too much to remember, make someone to write it down for you.
Don’ts:
- Do not keep yourself awake till late night if you have early next morning henna appointment.
- Do not drink too much liquid just before or while doing henna.
- Do not sit in the sun while doing henna.
- Do not move your hands up and down or sideways to dry it quicker, henna might spread.
- Do not use blow dryer if you are really not in hurry.
- Do not over dab the lemon sugar mixture.
- Do not walk around unnecessarily unless henna is completely dried.
- Do not apply haldi (turmeric) paste on top of the henna design.
- Avoid shower for at least 12 hrs after the henna is done. If cannot avoid taking shower than wear a plastic bag and fasten the ends with rubber band, so that no water can touch the henna.
- Do not wash your hands immediately after scraping the crust of henna off the body. You have to avoid water at least 4-6 hrs. Longer the better.
- Do not shave your arms or legs after henna is stained, because shaving may scarp off the upper layer of the skin and henna might look faded.
