A man has been killed after a tree fell on a van in Tunbridge Wells, police have told Yahoo! News.

Storms have caused chaos across the country.
Police confirmed that the man, said to be in his fifties, died after an oak tree fell onto his vehicle at around 12.25pm on Sandhurst Road, Tunbridge Wells. He was pronounced dead at the scene while another male passenger in the van has been left unhurt.

"The road has been closed to allow emergency services to operate and due to the risk posed by another tree on the road, which is also in danger of falling," a Kent police statement read.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area.

The severe winds battering the UK have wreaked havoc, reaching speeds above 100 mph and are severely disrupting transport.

Trees have been uprooted across the country, roofs ripped from buildings and train lines and ports closed as a result of the storms, while 40,000 homes have been left without power in Scotland after electricity lines were brought down.
